'Picking Up' for the Maid

>> Wednesday, February 13, 2008

I can't believe I get to be one of 'those' people: the maid is coming, so everybody pick up!

Well, only kinda sorta. Our maid is our new Roomba. It's on a schedule; at 8:30 every morning it beep beep beeps to let us know it's getting ready to go to work. . . . we grab our shoes, dog toys, etc. out of its path.

We've only had it for TWO days! but so far, so very very good. The only "complaint" I could muster is that it sometimes has trouble finding its dock.

It has picked up sooooooooo much dirt / hair / lint. I love that it will keep the 'hidden' places nasty-free: under the couch, under the cabinet, etc. Those are the places that Charlotte is often innocently sticking her hands into to retrieve some toy or animal, so now we won't all cringe and hold our breath when she does.

Now that I have one, I am close to advising that this gadget isn't really quite the extravagant luxury that it seemed; it may be as fundamental a need as a broom, mop, or washing machine!

I just have to tell you...I am SOOOOO jealous. I've wanted one of those, but haven't worked myself up to justifying actually buying it. I'm going to let you try yours out a while longer and then get the low down. It switches from the wood to carpet on its own, right? Hey, tomorrow is Valentine's Day maybe MTR will get me one. NOT!!

It sounds so "the Jetsons"! I cannot even imagine owning such a seemingly futuristic appliance. To come home to floors not covered in pet hair is beyond my imagination. :-o

I am afraid our little Min Pin would murder it on it's first trip across the house, though. She'd have to be crated for sure.

This is going on my wishlist!

Susan:
It IS wonderful! Yes, it switches from hardwood to rugs / carpet/ over thresholds effortlessly. If Michael doesn't get you one for Valentine's Day - then maybe your birthday! . . . we'll have a full review by then, for sure.

Renna,

It is VERY Jetson-y! (I loved that show). Min Pin would probably feel better crated, or on a road trip to get a hamburger or something. . .

Since my job is to vacumn, that would be a very good present for me, for all family members reading. (hint, hint, hint). Very cool, something straight out of the twenty-first century! Hey, we are going to get rid of "the burb" soon. Getting another used car. Time to upgrade. We should keep it a couple more years and it would be an antique.... wishful thinking....

Aww, I'll miss seeing the "Burb" in the parking lots! Do you know what you're gonna get?

I remember seeing one of those on the Gilmore Girls a few years ago and thinking it looked pretty neat then. I also remember having the thought that my dog would probably have fits watching it vacuum the house. Congratulations on getting one.

Thanks Muddy!

Since my dogs (and cats) are the main reasons I believe I NEEDED the Roomba. . . . they just have to deal with their distrust and dislike of it!!
