HELP! Name the Birds PLEASE

>> Monday, March 24, 2008

Sharon now has just the two birds she is keeping, and she wants help naming them. She is counting on my 3 or 4 loyal readers to submit some clever, suitable ideas.

If we don't get suggestions, Ed is going to name them Heckel and Jeckle. (Their other animals: Titus, Gracie, and Lucy -dogs; Angel and Cracker -cats).

If you visit but don't usually comment, NOW would be a great time to start : )

For simplicity's sake, I'm going to refer to the birds as if they are male, but I've no clue to their gender. And I don't think it matters . . .

Bird Grey: He's a little crazy. Loves the camera, and gets in the way if I try lean around him to take pictures of his cage mate. He poses - I mean he really poses for me. Works it. And yells alot while he's at it. Mary describes him as selfish and fluffy.

Bird Yellow: Quieter, camera-shy, more 'pettable'. Mary describes him as nicer and prettier. She likes him best.

Please, please offer your suggestions, and get your friends to, too!

Her home office is now completely in the back bedroom, across the hall from the master, near the back door (three dogs in and out, ya know). The front bedroom, ex-office, is now a comfy, convenient guest room (and she has lots of guests).

If you've been reading previous Sharon posts, you know that she is bizarre and that she accomplished this all in a weekend, all by herself. (Ed was sick). I went over once to help move a file cabinet, and could not budge my side. Not an inch. She just did it alone, but I cheered her on (literally - give me an "S", give me an "H", etc.), and told her how great she was. For a he-woman.

She repaired, patched, painted, cleaned, and installed a new ceiling light fixture (yes, yes she did). She had two rooms full of furniture to switch, files to refile, cables to rewire / relocate, doggie door to install, etc. The list and very idea is overwhelming. For 'before' pics, see previous SWS post.

But she's over there now, enjoying all the fruits of her very hard labor, as is her visiting sister, Shirley.

She called me on Friday because she had re-arranged the house again and wanted my opinion.  Her office, the bar / coffee area, and the living room had all been switched around.
I didn't have any before pics; but I do have these of animals everywhere I wanted to be.

Here's how I helped:  looked at her rearrangement with a new perspective and advised about things that looked crowded or off or just "not right".  We rehung art and pictures, exchanged knick-knacks, swapped plants, and pulled items from other rooms for an even fresher look.    It made an incredible difference, and the fantastic results caused me to come home and look at my space with a more critical eye...... my mantle was junky, the bookshelf was cluttered, etc. I took my own advice and soon had a small box ready for Goodwill, a couple of things for eBay, and even something perfect for Sharon.  Lots more I could do, but I'm not Sharon, so my efforts lasted the shortest while, and it was suddenly second-pot of coffee time.   By the time that was enjoyed, I was WAY PAST cleaning house.  I just went back to Sharon's.

Sharon finished the birdcage and has the birds.  She has four of them right now, but is giving two away.  They are friendly, happy birds.  I can't remember what kind they are, but they can learn to talk and repeat noises - like a cell phone ring or a whistle.  I don't know if they can mimic dogs barking - but that is the sound they will hear the most.

The very cool thing about her birdcage is that it is on wheels;  it rolls easily for cleaning or visiting or getting next to the window.

Sharon's cats don't seem to care anything about the birds, but the dogs mind everything that takes attention away from them.

As far as more activities and projects, she has cleaned out her very large, front-yard flowerbed, and trimmed all her crepe mrytles, but alas, I have no photos to share of her hard work.  I'll get better about stalking my neighbors with a camera . . .

Sharon is my next door neighbor and friend. She is always attempting and accomplishing some major project - if she isn't adding a screened-in porch or chopping down trees or rewiring her house, she's at least going to rearrange her furniture in the living room. She almost always asks me to come over and tell her what I think of a new arrangement, and I've taken to saying (like a true friend can), "what difference does it make, it'll be totally different in about three weeks" - but I'll go over for the coffee and the company anyway, any time.

Her current project is a bird cage.....she doesn't have any birds yet but plans to acquire a couple. She had a metal cart, and is adding 'chicken' wire to it with brackets to make the cage. She is cutting branches from her backyard willow tree to set up the 'living' space. She'll get a comfortable, roomy home ready for two little birdies for about $30.

This may not seem unusual or impressive to anyone else, but as I chronicle more of her schemes, you too might notice a pattern of extraordinary capability and cleverness.

I'll keep you posted.
