Things In My House Thursday - Outside Version

This TIMHT will feature something from my
backyard, but something that is no longer in my backyard....
I WANT to like nature.
I WANT to like gardening.
I am trying to start a bona-fide garden this year, and, so far, like all yard work, it is miserably hard work!! I enjoy the fresh air, the sense of accomplishment, the flowers; hopefully I will also enjoy some spinach and tomatoes and edamame and peppers and herbs and more - FRESH and free from my beautiful little raised garden bed.
What I don't enjoy: the heat, for sure, but MOST OF ALL I don't like any thing that crawls, flies, buzzes, slithers or comes within about 100 feet of me. Even at that distance, I want it to be heading in the opposite direction.
Sooooooo, finding this in a pot I needed to use very nearly
derailed my future in yard-farming:
Yes, it's a disturbing, dangerous Black Widow Spider. Yikes!
And I would have run screaming, likely calling 911, if my kids and neighbor hadn't been outside to "protect" me..... and to suggest I go get my camera.....
we all survived the unpleasant find, but the spider most definitely did not!
Please join Things In My House Thursday
and share something - hopefully more pleasant - from your house or yard.
Post, link, visit, comment!

OMG...I hate any kind of spider...but this really is unnerving...I would have been out of there sooo fast...
You were brave to come back with your camara. Happy Spring ~Natalie
Ooooh, that is creepy!! Bugs (especially Japanese Beetles) and heat are two things I do not like about the outdoors, either. At this point in the year, though, I think I'll settle for both just for a bit of nice weather :)
Oh my goodness. I would have freaked. Did someone kill it for you? I would never have been able to step on it for fear it would jump up my leg. Ahhhhh...those pictures freak me out. Thanks for posting them.
In a word, "Eeeewwwwwwww!!!!!".
I have been married 35 years and the first thing I told my husband when we were married was "I don't do yards" Your spider just reminded me why.
EEEEEKKKKKK. How scary. Good thing you spotted this terrorizing monster!! We had one once take up residence in our mailbox!!!!! I now always 'look before I leap' so to speak.
I don't think we have Black Widow spiders here in Iowa...And if we do, I don't want to know!!! *shudder* Did you kill it? I would have gotten a can of bug spray and used the whole thing up!!! *shudder*
Aaaaahhh...
We found one in our couch cushions once... that scared the heck out of me!
I'm going to try to join the TIMH linky next week!
When my daughter was three or four she was playing in the sandbox. I happened to glance over to her spread out legs and right inbetween was a black widow spider. Scared me to death....but I calmly walked over and scooped her out into the grass before killing the spider.
We got rid of the sand and sold the sandbox...sad-but I did not want to take the chance of not seeing one "just in time".
We found a couple more after this...and then no more in a long while (thankfully)
