Things In My House #37

This may not look exciting to anybody but me:

But for almost exactly one week (just after I scheduled last week's TIMHT on Wednesday night) I have been without my computer. I've never appreciated it as much as I did while it was 'gone'.

I'd turned off the computer before I went to bed; the next morning I pushed the round, blue button. . . . . nothing happened. NOTHING. (My stuff?! What if my stuff was lost??)

We checked all the cords, the surge protector, so on. This was obviously serious; we had to call Matt (sil). He suggested the computer's power box as the problem. Christopher tried his power box in my tower (we both have HPs); it worked, but didn't fit properly so we couldn't close the tower or operate my computer safely.

Sooooo, we ordered a new one; I waited impatiently, and it arrived today!!! Woo - Hoo, Happy Day!

I had access to other computers this week, but not my computer, with my bookmarks, and my settings, etc.

I was thankful as soon as I knew that my hard drive was fine and that none of my pictures or recipes or other favorite things were gone for good; but it was still hard to wait to be on my computer again, and to get started on saving, uploading, backing up my stuff!

This is a thankful Thursday, and a reminder to all: make copies or upload things that are irreplaceable to you!

How scary! About a year ago, the hard drive on my computer quit. It was awful! I thought all my photos, etc. were gone. After several weeks my husband was able to get them back, but not without wading through tons and tons of unsorted gibberish. I agree that it's important to back things up! I'm so glad you are back up - and just in time for TIMHT!

I'm glad you got yourself a new computer and your hard drive was fine with all of your stuff still there! What a heartbreak that would be to lose all of it! Nancy

I hate to be "that guy," but I must clarify. Never did I imply that it was the computer's "power box," that was the problem. I don't even know what a "power box," is. I do know what a power supply is and I did (correctly I might add) diagnose that as your issue.

And, a minor sidenote, Firefox has a plugin that will save your bookmarks in the cloud, so that any computer you go to, provided that it has Firefox, will allow you to view/import your favorites. I'm assuming that Internet Explorer has something similar, but I use it only when I have to, so I could not say for certain.

And congrats on getting the thing back up and running. Welcome back to the glory that is the interwebz.

Box, supply, source; by any name it is as sweet!

And, THANK YOU for the help, BTW.

I'll check into the Firefox thing.

So glad you got it to working again. I would have been having serious withdrawals from "my stuff", with seizures and sweats and everything.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!! The horror you must have felt. I am so sorry my internet friend for this sudden tragedy. LOL Isn't that the way we feel though? I know I would for sure. Glad to see you are back up and running!!!

Oh, I am so glad your stuff was still there. We have lost everything on our hard drive...twice...daughter's confirmation pictures, etc. we now have an external hard drive too.

I can totally relate to the loss one feels when they cannot access THEIR own computer and have to go on someone else's (if that is even available) Glad you got back swiftly...
